So zitiert die „Bild“-Zeitung den US-General und „Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff“, Martin E. Dempsey. Weiter heißt es: „Das heutige Sicherheitsumfeld ist das unberechenbarste, das ich in 40 Dienstjahren erlebt habe.“
Im Original liest sich das so: “Globalization, diffusion of technology, and demographic shifts are driving rapid change as state actors and trans-regional networks challenge order and stability. (…) It is a complex strategic environment and the U.S. military cannot focus on one threat to the exclusion of all others, according to the strategy.“
Insgesamt also eher ein Hilferuf der US-Streitkräfte. Eine Interpretation: „Die Lage ist zunehmend komplex. Wir können uns nicht mehr auf einen Leitkonflikt konzentrieren. Für ein vielschichtiges Bedrohungszenario fehlen uns aber die Instrumente.“
