Newsflash: Must-read-news for April 14, 2025

Infrequent and incomplete, but here are my most recent recommended reads for today:
Stefan Meister from German Think Tank “dgap” is calling for an intensified engagement of EU in the post-Sowjet area. There are a lot of regions tending towards the West and the EU. A closer relationship to those countries would limit Russias influence and weaken its position. Sourche: Internationale Politik
Has the nuke been exploding in your brain? It has indeed, as Hanbyeol Sohn and Changwoo Kang are noticing. That’s how Northern Korean Cognitive Warfare functions – by steadily bringing the Nuclear option into the debate it is shaping our narrative in regard to this country. That’s well intended. The regime in Pyongyang wants us to feel the nuke in our necks when it claims for recognition. Source: 38 North
A very different but also recognizable approach to the Cyber domain is taking place right now in Indonesia, as the Australian Strategic Policy Institute released. There, the army is now responsible for the Cyber domain but obviously not exactly knowing what its role and duties are. Source: ASPI
Let’s stay in Asia. In Taiwan, Tsai Yu-ming, an assistant professor in the School of Liberal Education at Shih Chien University is calling for a whole-society approach in defense and an enlarged risk literacy. Not only the Army and the State are responsible for defending democracy but everyone has its stake in it. Source: Taipei Times
That leads us to the question who however is vulnerable to Fake News? It are the young people, the fools, conservatives and … yes … females. That’s not my opinion, that is the result of a research conducted amongst 66,000 people. Source: University of British Columbia
Fake, or not? There is a debate right now on if and how many Chinese nationals are fighting for Russia in Ukraine. That claim has been published by Ukraine and it seems correct. But it are no official Chinese soldiers but volunteers which are recruited via social media and attracted by relatively high service pay. So, it’s the obvious and it should not be unmentioned that also Ukraine is recruiting volunteers from abroad for its fight against Russia. Source: Radio Free Europe
Last, but not least Melissa Enoch is showing how China is using AI for flooding Taiwan with fake news. Source: Arise News
